Verified official information
For a child's passport, the Hong Kong Immigration Department (ImmD) applies the same rules as for an adult: a 40 × 50 mm colour photo, plain white background, 32 to 36 mm face, front view and a neutral expression.
We correct the framing and prepare the plain white background while preserving your natural appearance.
We deliver a 1280 × 1600 px JPEG for online applications or the ImmD app, plus a print version for the 40 × 50 mm copies if you apply on paper. If the child has no Hong Kong permanent identity card, one additional identical photo is submitted.
Stand the child in front of a white wall, with even light and no direct flash, and take the photo at eye level. Keep their hair off the eyebrows and ask them to look at the camera with their mouth closed.
You don't need to memorize measurements or biometric rules. Imagokit applies this document's official setup and checks the result before delivery.
Take the photo at their eye level, from about 1.5 metres away. It's best if an adult takes it: selfies are not accepted.
Ask them to look at the phone with their head and shoulders straight and their mouth closed. They must be alone, with no toys or other people.
Have them face a window in daylight, with no shadows on the face. We take care of the background.
Don't worry about the background or framing — our AI fixes that. Focus on this.
If you need to complete more than one application, prepare each photo to the exact size and rules of its document.

For children aged 3 to 12. This is an Imagokit guide range, not an official rule: the photo follows the document's rules and, if the authority allows any age-related flexibility, we apply it. From age 13, use the adult photo.
It must be exactly 40 × 50 mm (1.6 × 2 in), with a plain white background. Imagokit crops and adjusts your photo to those measurements automatically.
The background must be plain white. Our tool replaces your photo's background with the required one automatically.
The process uses a digital photo, but the final channel may depend on your category, nationality, agent or consulate. Check the instructions for your specific application.
